President's Report

Virtual Compare

The Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) has released their new VIRTUAL COMPARE web tool. Please read the following announcement from the MHCC inviting all brokers to participate:

"We are pleased to announce the pending release of VIRTUAL COMPARE in early February, an information-only Web portal that allows small employers with 2 to 50 employees to compare side-by-side benefit , limitations, cost sharing and premiums for a select group of health plans that are offered by Maryland licensed insurers, non-profit health service plans, and HMOs. The portal is a new tool developed by the Maryland Health Care Commission to help employers find health plans that meet their needs.
VIRTUAL COMPARE encourages employers to use a licensed broker or agent and provides a "Find a Broker" feature that will list brokers and agents who are active in the small group market and who have registered on the VIRTUAL COMPARE site. Maryland licensed insurance brokers and agents may pre-register on the site beginning January 19. We encourage you to register before VIRTUAL COMPARE goes live. The registration process can be completed on-line within minutes and includes a mandatory educational video to get brokers and agents acquainted with the purpose and functionality of the portal.
Please join us in servicing the small employers of Maryland by going to http://mhcc.maryland.gov/virtualcompare and registering for this exciting new channel into the small group health insurance market."

This is a wonderful opportunity for all brokers to become part of the active broker database. Please logon, register and pass this information along to any other active broker that you know. This program needs our support.

Thank you for your time and attention.

With NAHU representing the industry, policymakers have addressed many

issues the health care reform bill promised to create:

inside and outside of the new exchanges.

  • Preserving private insurance plans as the predominant source of coverage,

without the creation of a government-run public health insurance plan.

  • Working with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and

policymakers to acknowledge the value of our members and the need to preserve

your role in the health insurance system.

With NAHU working with key policymakers, your dues dollars continue to

support our role as the voice of the industry:

  • Creating a joint task force with the NAIC and the Dept. of Health and Human

Services (HHS) to address agent compensation and medical loss ratio (MLR).

  • Working closely with Congress and the administration on the development of

the new web portal for consumers to shop for health insurance.

  • Working directly with the NAIC and providing guidance as states establish their

exchanges.
